The term "software engineering" was first used in 1963 by Margaret Hamilton,

who was creating the software for the Apollo spacecraft at the time.

Attempting to keep up with the advancements in hardware development at

this time put software development in a bind. By introducing new programs

and languages, this era contributed to the development of software engineering.

The NATO Software Engineering Conference, which was held in 1968 and 1969,

gave the software engineering sector a much-needed boost. By the 1980s,

software engineering had established a position alongside computer science

and traditional engineering.
